Whenever there is a Baptism one can expect the congregation numbers to swell as we saw a few weeks ago for the baptism of Abigail which cannot be compared to the large number of people that lined the banks of the river Jordan, listening to the message of John the Baptist, when Jesus was baptised.

Today we celebrate the baptism of the Lord. In the opening prayer we hear how the Spirit came down to the Lord when He was baptized, like a dove to rest on Him. In Christianity the dove has two symbolic meanings, the Holy Spirit as in this case, and it is also the sign of peace. The two are closely connected, since Jesus is known as the Prince of Peace.
